Families scrambling as an Ottawa care home for adults with disabilities is closing its doors - 580 CFRA

Edgewood Care Centre Limited has decided to close its facility by September 2026. The Centre points the closure due to old infrastructure and not finding a purchaser that would continue to operate the facility. Local Ottawa hockey star signs to new PWHL Hamilton franchise - 580 CFRA

Kayle Osbourne has signed to PWHL Hamilton as their starting goaltender. Osbourne is originally born in Westport, ON but attended John McCrae Secondary School in Barrhaven.

She got her PWHL debut with New York Sirens where she had 27 starts for the team and just recently made her Olympic debut in Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games with the Canadian national team.

Ottawa's Bosnian community unites for Bosnia and Herzegovina's second FIFA World Cup appearance - 580 CFRA

Ottawa's Bosnian Community is uniting at the Jolly Taxpayer in Barrhaven to celebrate and watch the country's first FIFA World Cup match against Canada.

Their debut tournament was in 2014 with this year marking their second FIFA World Cup qualification.

Should heading a soccer ball be banned in youth soccer leagues? - 580 CFRA

As the FIFA World Cup gets underway this week, a Toronto family is pushing to ban youth soccer heading following their late fathers CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) diagnosis.

The family says repeated head contact with the ball, shoulder or head over his lifetime of playing soccer led to repeated brain injuries which was later confirmed to be CTE following his death. They want to prevent early head injuries by banning this skill.

OCSB cutting specialized bus attendant positions, leaving parents with a sea of concerns - 580 CFRA

The Ottawa Catholic School Board announced cuts to the specialized bus attendant position. The cuts are impacting over 30 to 50 staff which will affect approximately 100 students who suffer from medical conditions. Many of the children are non verbal, wheelchair bound or require complex five point safety harnesses. Jennifer Bloom has been working as a specialized bus attendant for over 20 years and says this is a critical safety crisis for these children.
